Learn about the next Sweets and Tweets!

A packed crowd of cupcake and social media lovers joined us May 26, 2010 for another edition of Sweets and Tweets, a private after hours event at the very cool Baked and Wired in DC's Georgetown.

This was a rare opportunity to hear bestselling author and business provocateur Tom Peters talk in a small group setting. His topic was, loosely, Innovation, Prosperity and Social Media. As expected, Tom riffed on a number of topics from privacy to the importance of doing business face to face.

At left, Peters chats with Networks Solutions' Social Media Swami Shashi Bellamkonda, a longtime fan.

Tom is co-author of the classic, In Search of Excellence, author of over a dozen other books and has just published a new book, The Little BIG Things. Irreverent, forceful and iconoclastic, Tom is considered the most important business thinker since Peter Drucker.

When I learned he was making a last minute trip to DC, I invited him to speak at Sweets and Tweets - and he accepted! Of course, as bribes, I used CUPCAKES and the chance to rub shoulders with DC's digerati.

Register today for this unique opportunity to ply Tom Peters with your toughest questions, mingle with DC's smartest govies, techies and business folk at Baked and Wired and eat a cupcake (or two).

Note the new time of the event. We started an hour later, at 8 PM sharp, because of Baked and Wired's summer hours.

Thanks to cupcake lover John Taylor, senior manager public affairs for Sprint Nextel, for the video interview below.

Sweets and Tweets features leading voices from DC's diverse technology community on the use of social media by the public and private sector, from the White House and federal agencies to local startups. The event series is produced and hosted by author and corporate social media consultant Debbie Weil.

Previous events featured blogging and tech celeb Anil DashMark Drapeau, Director of Innovative Social Engagement for Microsoft, GeniusRocket's Mark Walsh on crowdsourcing and HHS's Andrew P. Wilson on using social media in a crisis.

Every attendee at this private event gets:

  • FREE delicious cupcakes: Baked & Wired's cupcakes declared best in the nation by The Atlantic

  • The chance to rub shoulders - and learn from - those working in DC's innovative and increasingly active social media and Gov 2.0 space.

Don't wait to register if you are interested. Space is limited because of the size of the venue. And the event usually sells out.
